The Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University is now taking applications for a Social Media Specialist I or II. This individual will be responsible for developing comprehensive strategies and day-to-day content to support college objectives on social media. Under the supervision of the Graphic Designer, this individual will work directly with the college marketing and communications team, which includes the Director of Marketing and Communications, Graphic Designer, Event Planner, Web and Video Manager, as well as marketing and photography interns.


  • Create, maintain, and extend the design and visual identity of the Ivy College of Business throughout its social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube).
  • Manage and provide guidance on strategies and best practices for all college social media accounts by creating posts and responding to comments and posts from users
  • Stay at the cutting edge of content, creativity, and social media trends.
  • Ensure that voice and personality is consistent with the Ivy College of Business and Iowa State University brands.
  • Identify target audiences to both engage and grow the current fan base of each account.
  • Design and implement paid advertisements, while staying within allotted budgets, on the college’s social media accounts and track engagement through analytics.
  • Setup, manage, and troubleshoot livestreams.
  • Conduct in-depth analytic study to implement social media strategy that aligns with the college’s strategic plan. Successfully scale the impact of the college across all accounts.
  • Create monthly reports for tracking and reporting.
  • Create and implement a strategy to manage requests for individual Ivy College of Business department/unit social media accounts.
  • Set up Ivy College of Business Social Studio account and share content with other units around campus. Manage student contributors.
  • Keep a pulse on emerging social platforms and make recommendations for new platforms to adopt.
  • Research and analyze competitor accounts to provide competitive benchmarking.
  • Perform regular social listening.
  • Work with graphic designer to concept, create, review, and refine social content.
  • Work with web and video manager to produce low-budget daily video content along with contributing to the creation of high-visibility video productions (at minimum, have basic videography and editing skills).
  • Work with event planner to build social media plans for events to ensure engaging content before, during, and after events. Assist event planner with live event coverage as needed.
  • Work with student photographer for specific photography needs.
  • Work with marketing intern as student contributor in Social Studio.
  • Work with director of marketing and web manager on Google AdWords strategy.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using social media for business
  • Experience defining social media objectives and developing strategies to meet those objectives
  • Experience planning, executing, and analyzing the results of paid social media campaigns
  • Understanding of social media best practices and trends and platform differences
  • Familiarity with social media management and reporting tools
  • Knowledge of video creation and production
