John Deere and The Furrow: Original Content Marketers

Presentation Description:

In 1895, John Deere officially introduced The Furrow magazine, and became an unwitting pioneer in the field of content marketing. Now recognized as the first example of content marketing, The Furrow is one of the most trusted and widely circulated ag journals in North America and worldwide.

Editor David Jones will discuss the current state of consumer trust in information sources (specifically sources of information on food and food production); we’ll also talk about the three “secrets” to The Furrow’s believability and continued relevance; along the way, we’ll talk about John Deere’s place in American history, and The Furrow’s place in John Deere history.

David G. Jones
David Jones manages the development, production, and distribution of The Furrow and Homestead magazines from the John Deere Ag & Turf Marketing Center in Olathe, Kansas. He began his communications career in 1993 in Memphis, Tennessee; after moving to the Midwest in 1995, he worked for several Kansas City-area advertising and public relations firms, serving a variety of agricultural and retail clients before joining John Deere in 2003. Under his direction, The Furrow and Homestead magazines and editorial team members have been recognized with several “Of The Year” awards from the American Agricultural Editors Association, as well as with the Telly award for excellence in video production. 

Registration Details:

Register for this luncheon by noon on Monday, September 3rd. After noon on Monday, September 3rd, an additional $10 will be charged for registrations. This additional charge will be reflected in the registration prices listed above. Any registrations not cancelled by September 3rd will be billed. Cancellations may be made by emailing AMAReservations@gmail.com. Invoiced payments will be assessed a $5 administration fee.
