Chapter Policies

PROMOTIONAL REQUESTS

AMA Iowa is often asked by members and unaffiliated organizations to share information or promote their events to our email list. This protocol is designed to streamline the process of how these requests are handled and to ensure that AMA Iowa is consistent and objective in handling these requests.

Requirements

AMA Iowa will only consider requests for promotion of events from: (1) current members, or (2) member organizations or organizations that are providing reciprocal value for AMA Iowa members.

Criteria Considered

To maintain consistency and transparency in this process, AMA Iowa will consider, but is not limited to, the following criteria:

  • What value does this opportunity provide our members?
  • Is this something members want to know or information they would be interested in?
  • Is it consistent with AMA Iowa’s mission?
  • Does this information provide an opportunity to learn, link and lead?
  • What is being requested?
    • An email promoting something from AMA Iowa [1]
    • A request that an event be promoted verbally at another event
    • Sharing the information on AMA Iowa’s social media channels
    • Other

Procedure

  1. Organization or member shall make a request in writing to a member of the AMA Iowa Executive Leadership Team (President, President-Elect, Past President or Secretary) or one of the committee Vice Presidents on the AMA Iowa Board. Organization or member shall make every effort to make this request six to eight weeks prior to the event.
  2. AMA Iowa Board member presents opportunity to board at a board meeting.

[1] Note: AMA Iowa will not provide its membership or prospect list to other organizations.

The AMA Chapter Pledge

We believe marketing has the power to make a difference. As innovators, strategizers,  ambassadors and storytellers, we shape narratives that communicate value, create  meaning, and establish societal norms.

As chapter leaders in the AMA, we recognize that there is inequity in our marketing  community and organization and that we can do more to address these gaps. The  catalyst of our actions stems from the unjust murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor,  Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other lives lost due to police brutality. Our inaction and  silence in the past have resulted in hurt, exclusion, and harm in ways that we cannot  measure, but we are committed to rectifying this and ensuring that our efforts are  sustainable and far-reaching.

Starting today, we will use our platform to better help individuals and companies  support diversity, equity, and inclusion in the industry, beginning with centering and  amplifying the voices of our black, brown, and indigenous communities (BIPOC). As a  chapter of the American Marketing Association and as marketers representing a diverse  set of industries and disciplines:

• We commit to recruiting and retaining BIPOC representation within our board of  directors, leadership teams, volunteers, and membership.

• We commit to increasing BIPOC representation throughout our products and  services, thought leadership, campaigns, programming, and distribution  networks.

• We commit to building a pipeline of marketers that reflect the demographics of  the populations we serve.

• We commit to partnering with organizations that value diversity, equity, and  inclusion.

• We commit to further educating ourselves as to the plight of racial injustice and  will use our platform to facilitate courageous conversations that promote anti-bias  and anti-racism within the marketing community.

Together, we will use the power of our collective voices to outline the roles marketers  can play in standing for and delivering on inclusion; the ideals, values, and principles  that promote equality, respect, and unity.

Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability Relating to COVID-19

Last Updated: May 2021

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by a number of organizations including the World Health Organization and by proclamation of the Governor of the State of Iowa. COVID-19 is highly contagious and current information indicates it is spread mainly from person-to-person contact. In addition, new variants of the disease have been identified within the United States, some of which appear to spread more easily and quickly than previously known variants. Because some individuals could be infected with COVID-19 yet be asymptomatic, control exposure to COVID-19 or determining whether, where, or how a specific individual may have been exposed to it may prove difficult or not possible.

Aware of the foregoing, the ongoing health and safety risks posed by COVID 19, and steps I need to take to minimize my personal risk of exposure and spreading of the virus, I confirm that I voluntarily elect to attend Iowa Chapter of the American Marketing Association (“AMA Iowa”) events.

I understand that AMA Iowa has implemented safety rules and precautions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and that those rules and precautions may evolve as the public health crisis evolves. While acknowledging that these rules and precautions may or may not be effective in mitigating the spread of COVID-19, I agree to comply with such rules and precautions and any modifications or amendments to them. I understand that failure to do so will result in removal from, and denial of future entry to, AMA Iowa events.

By signing this agreement, I acknowledge that I understand the contagious nature of COVID-19, the fact that it can be difficult to identify infected individuals, and the inherent risks of exposure at AMA Iowa events to the COVID-19 virus and/or infected persons. I understand that, because of the unknown nature of COVID-19, it is not possible to list each and every risk of contracting, or being exposed to, COVID-19, and therefore, AMA Iowa cannot control these risks.  I voluntarily assume the risk that I may be exposed to those who may be infected with COVID-19, or become infected with COVID-19, by attending an AMA Iowa event, and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and/or even death. I voluntarily assume full responsibility for any and all risks of such illness or injury, as well as from the use of any protective equipment that AMA Iowa may voluntarily provide to me.

IN EXCHANGE FOR AMA IOWA ALLOWING ME TO PARTICIPATE IN ITS EVENTS, PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES, AND FOR OTHER GOOD AND VALUABLE CONSIDERATION THE ADEQUACY AND RECEIPT OF WHICH ARE ACKNOWLEDGED, I AGREE TO AND DO FULLY, IRREVOCABLY, AND UNCONDITIONALLY RELEASE AND FOREVER DISCHARGE AND HOLD HARMLESS AMA IOWA AND ITS AFFILIATES, BOARD OF DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, INSURERS, AGENTS, AND REPRESENTATIVES (EACH A “RELEASEE”) FROM ANY AND ALL DAMAGES, LIABILITY, INJURY , ILLNESS, CLAIMS, EXPENSES OR LOSS (COLLECTIVELY, “CLAIMS”) TO ME, MY PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVES, ESTATE, HEIRS, AND ASSIGNS, AND WAIVE ANY AND ALL CLAIMS FOR INJURY, ILLNESS, LOSS, OR DAMAGE, INCLUDING ATTORNEYS’ FEES AND COSTS, ARISING OUT OF OR RESULTING FROM MY ATTENDANCE AT ANY EVENT CONDUCTED, PROMOTED, OR SPONSORED BY AMA IOWA, EVEN IF CAUSED IN WHOLE OR IN PART BY THE NEGLIGENT ACTS OR OMISSIONS OR OTHER MISCONDUCT OF, ANY RELEASEE, INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH EXPOSURE TO, OR CONTRACTION OF, COVID-19 (NOVEL CORONAVIRUS). I FURTHER AGREE NOT TO SUE ANY RELEASEE OR CAUSE ANY RELEASEE TO BE SUED REGARDING ANY MATTER RELEASED ABOVE, AND TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS EACH RELEASEE FROM ANY CLAIMS RESULTING FROM OR ARISING OUT OF MY BREACH OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT.

NONE OF THE RELEASEES MAKES ANY REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WITH RESPECT TO THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ANY SAFETY RULES OR PRECAUTIONS IMPLEMENTED AT ANY TIME BY AMA IOWA (INCLUDING ANY PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT PROVIDED BY AMA IOWA) TO MITIGATE THE SPREAD OF COVID-19, AND THE RELEASEES EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM, AND I AGREE I AM NOT RELYING ON, ANY REPRESENTATION OR WARRANTIES (WRITTEN OR ORAL). ANY PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT PROVIDED BY AMA IOWA IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS-IS” AND “WHERE-IS” BASIS, AND AMA IOWA MAKES NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, REGARDING SUCH PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT. AMA IOWA EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, USAGE, OR SUITABILITY OR FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE WITH RESPECT TO ANY SUCH PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT.

I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS AGREEMENT, AND I AM AWARE THAT BY SIGNING THIS AGREEMENT, I MAY BE WAIVING CERTAIN LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING THE RIGHT TO SUE.  THIS AGREEMENT SHALL BE BINDING UPON ME AND MY HEIRS, LEGAL REPRESENTATIVES, AND ASSIGNS, AND SHALL INURE TO THE BENEFIT OF AMA IOWA AND ITS SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS.
